Reebok

I was watching TV the other day and a commercial came on for Reebok.  The commercial is supposed to sell shoes but the majority of the time the camera is focused on women's butts.  I get that they are marketing that these shoes tone your bottom and your legs.  However, if you are selling the shoes shouldn't you show the shoes a little more than just glimpses?  The main focus of the commercial is their butts!  Reebok you aren't selling butts; you are selling shoes!  The commercial is way over-sexualized and makes the women look like objects.  I just don't understand why you would design a commercial to please the male gaze when you are trying to sell the product to women.

  1. Yeah, I agree, I've thought that before when watching this commercial. I think the same thing about magazine that are for girls and give all of this advice for girls about dating guys and then they have all of these sexual pictures of women in them. I don't want to see all of these advertisements that sexualize women in my magazine! Cut them out! There's so much more to flip through that read, so it seems in my experience guys enjoy flipping through them more than girls. But they aren't the ones that are going to actually spend money on them.

  2. The commercial does do good job in trying to get people’s attention by focusing it on the image of a woman’s buttock. Reebok’s message to its audience is that their shoes will provide their consumers with a great looking bottom and nice looking legs, if they buy the shoes and use them. I do not have too much of a problem with the commercial; expect that it is on a lot. And it is getting very annoying to see it over and over again.

  3. I agree with you all. This commercial has fragmented the female body, and focused on only one part. We the audience understand that these shoes will help tone our butts, but it is a bit too much to focus on the butts the entire commercial. We do not even get to see the faces of any of these models. These women are no longer people they are purely advertising devices!!
